Sunday February 12 – 7pm Frank Venables Theatre presents
Ballet Kelowna’s Celebration of Canadian Dance
Celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary with Ballet Kelowna’s fresh and exciting evening of classical and contemporary dance and music. Works for 150 Moves by Canadian choreographers will delight audiences of all ages.
In Studies of Cash, the Company pays tribute to country legend Johnny Cash. With a heart-rending mix of Cash recordings, Ballet Kelowna Artistic Director and CEO Simone Orlando’s soulful, stylistic work explores classical lyricism, folk-dance, and rhythm ’n’ blues.
The Romeo and Juliet balcony scene pas-de-deux is freshly interpreted by emerging choreographer Joshua Beamish and set to Prokofiev’s breathtaking score.
The program will finish with a vibrant new work set to Oscar Peterson’s iconic Canadiana Suite. Co-created by award-winning choreographers Simone Orlando and Donald Sales, this energetic group piece pays tribute to the regions and cultures of Canada through an expressive blend of classical ballet and jazz.
Tickets: $35 adults $17.50 students
